Follow our search for the next rising star in local government

From January, the top rising stars in local government will be battling it out to be crowned champion of the CapacityGRID sponsored 2012 Local Government Challenge.  

The competition tasks candidates with a series of tough real life challenges set by councils. In what has been labelled ‘The Apprentice for local government’, a winner will be chosen from the ten finalists and presented with a career-enhancing scholarship worth up to £10,000 from the Bruce Lockhart Programme.

The 10 finalists who will be battling it out to become 2012 Local Government Challenge champion are:

4. Hannah Rees, Communications Manager, Cornwall Council
   
5. Holly Rae, Corporate Policy Officer, Stockport Council
   
6. Jodie Harris, Principal Strategy Officer, Southwark Council
   
7. Lorna Gibbons, Senior Economic Development Officer, Borough of Poole Council
   
8. Miladur Rahman, Partnership Development Officer, Rochdale Borough Council
   
9. Rachael Hawthorne, Estate Renewal Project Officer, Northampton Borough Council
   
10. Vikas Bhanot, Efficiency Officer, London Borough of Croydon Council
